Frequently asked questions

Won’t my phone’s battery be drained quickly when connected by Bluetooth?
Bluetooth is more energy efficient than Wi-Fi, for example. Bluetooth energy consumption depends on the Bluetooth version installed on the telephone.
If you so wish you can charge your mobile phone using the USB charger on the side of the Handsfree, even if the radio is running on battery power. The Bluetooth function can also be used as normal then too.

How far away can you be without being disconnected from Bluetooth?
An average of 10 metres or more in open spaces. But this greatly depends on the type of mobile phone (the strength of the Bluetooth signal emitted by this telephone) and the presence of any intervening walls and doors. Via the “connected” LED on the front of the Rockhart BT you can always see immediately whether your telephone is still connected or not. If you become disconnected from Bluetooth when leaving for a moment, as soon as you return within range connection will be restored automatically.

How do I connect my mobile phone to the Rockhart BT radio when doing so for the first time?
Simply via your mobile phone’s Bluetooth menu. Select "ROCKHART BT" in your mobile phone’s Bluetooth menu. No PIN codes or similar are required.

Can someone else connect to my radio via Bluetooth with their mobile phone at the same time?
No. Once it is connected the radio only recognizes your mobile phone. Only if you purposefully disconnect in the radio’s Bluetooth menu can another mobile phone be connected to it.

Can I also play internet radio or Spotify via the Rockhart BT radio?
Yes, this is possible, no problem.

The Rockhart is rechargeable. How long does it play for on a full charge?
The length of time a rechargeable radio plays for on a full charge can never be given precisely as it depends on a number of factors, including the type of music played (e.g. music with more bass requires more power), the volume selected (the higher the volume, the more power used), the ambient temperature (a battery produces less power in low temperatures), the age of the rechargeable batteries, etc.
The Rockhart plays for up to approximately 2 working days on a full charge (at an average volume level, at room temperature – depending on radio reception and music type).

The Rockhart only recharges when switched off. Why is this?
In order to prevent the charging process from having a negative effect on the quality of radio reception and music performance it was decided to separate charging and playing in a number of models.

The Rockhart has 2 LED charge indications. Why?
Charging the batteries in the Rockhart happens in 2 separate charging compartments, each with their own charge circuit. Hence the separate LED charge indications.

The Rockhart does not have a grip at the top like most of the other jobsite radios. Why?
A conscious decision was made not to fit this radio with a grip in order to make it possible to place toolcases on top of this “big boy” during transport. The corrugated rubber on the four corners prevents the toolcases from sliding off.

If I use my rechargeable drill near the radio the latter fades away. When I stop the sound returns. How come?
If machines (e.g. drills, saw benches, forklift trucks, etc.) or battery chargers are operated next to or near a jobsite radio, the electromagnetic field they generate can interfere with reception by the jobsite radio. In the case of DAB+ reception, strong electric currents in the immediate vicinity can even cause the radio signal to fade completely.

Sometimes if I move my DAB+ radio even just 50 cm indoors I have better reception.
With DAB+ signal reception, moving the radio a short distance, even just a few dozen centimetres, can make a huge difference to the signal level. This is typical of DAB+ radio reception.
